About Joe

As seen on Discovery Channel, ITV UK and ABC Australia.

Guaranteed laughter and entertainment

Joe May creates an original style of street performance, turning the street into a space where true theatre happens, where a character moves beyond just tricks. He uses mask, physical theatre, clown, mime, juggling and acrobatic/physical tricks to tell stories, creating play and laughter as well as a deeper human recognition.

Joe, thank you so very sincerely. I will absolutely look for every chance to have you involved in anything I do in future.”  Chloe Goodyear, Artistic Programmer, Woodford Folk Festival, Australia.

Joe started performing at the age of 10. He went on to study Drama with Philosophy at The University of East Anglia in the UK. After travelling round the world he trained as an actor, writer and director at the Lecoq International Theatre School in Paris, France.

Joe has been working in professional theatre, ranging from mask, to clown, Shakespeare to street theatre since 1988.

“We were lucky enough to stumble on your show on the Royal Mile last year –
we saw lots of great stuff at the festival but your performance was the
act that we found ourselves talking about and recommending to others more
than any other.”
Mark Bushman, managing director, DATB, UK.

Joe creates and writes all of his own work, performing at festivals and events, large and small just about anywhere… Edinburgh (UK), Adelaide (Australia), Aurillac (France), Koblenz (Germany), Weinfelden (Switzerland), Accroche Coeurs (France) to name a few, and on the pavements worldwide.
